Prof. Guido Mannaerts is a very experienced laparoscopic oncological surgeon, working as a Consultant General Surgeon at Medcare Royal Speciality Hospital. After completing his degree in Medicine, he earned a Bachelor’s certificate in Economics (BEc) and his MD, all from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. He underwent his Surgery Residency programme at the Catharina Hospital & University Hospital Maastricht, NL. He is a PhD from the University of Groningen, with the topic of his thesis being ‘IORT-containing multimodality treatment for locally advanced primary and locally recurrent rectal cancer’. He has a Fellowship in laparoscopic GI-oncological surgery from the Catharina Hospital Eindhoven, NL and holds a Double Dutch board super-specialisation fellowship Certification as a Gastro-intestinal Surgeon and as an Oncological Surgeon certified by the Dutch Society of Surgeons (NVvH) in the Netherlands
Prof. Mannaerts is a member of the Emirates Medical Association (EMA), the Emirates Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Interest Group (EOMSIG), the Dutch Association of Surgical Oncology (NVOC), the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES), the Dutch Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (DSMBS), the International Federation for Surgery of the Obese (IFSO), the Dutch Association for Endoscopic Surgery (NVEC) and the Dutch Association of Surgery (NVvH).
He commenced his surgical training at the VU Medical Center in Amsterdam after which he worked as a Senior house officer in Surgery at Onze Lieve Vrouwe Hospital, the Catharina Hospital, Eindhoven and the Academic Hospital Maastricht, Netherlands. He also did a stint as a Senior house officer surgical GI-oncology in training at the Catharina Hospital. He spent over a decade at the teaching hospital St. Franciscus Gasthuis (SFG) in Rotterdam, initially as Chief of the General Surgery division, later as Head of Surgery Residency Programme and then as a Consultant Surgeon. He was a Consultant Bariatric & Oncology Surgeon at the Tawam University Hospital, Al Ain, UAE and an independent Consultant Bariatric surgeon at the Gulf Specialised Hospital, Muscat, Oman. He also serves as an adjunct Associate Professor at the UAE University and is an independent Consultant Bariatric & Oncology Surgeon at Mediclinic Al Ain Hospital.
Prof. Mannaerts has performed over 10000 surgeries and has a special focus on safe and minimal scar, fast-recovery surgical approach. He has wide experience in all types of surgeries including the most complex revisional bariatric techniques. He has successfully performed colorectal surgery, gastric surgery, hernia surgery, gallbladder surgery, adrenal surgery, sarcoma surgery, breast surgery and thyroid surgery. He is a very experienced laparoscopic oncological surgeon and having published over 75 scientific medical publications, he is up to date with the newest and most safe surgical techniques. He is proficient in bariatric surgery including sleeve gastrectomy, mini gastric bypass, RY gastric bypass, SADI bypass and revisional bariatric surgery.
Besides, Prof. Mannaerts has held senior management positions as Department Chairperson, Division Chief, Medical Manager, and Educator. He writes for research projects and his articles are widely published. His experience and reputation ensure that he receives the most difficult cases in bariatrics and oncology in the region.
