Dr. Rajarathinam Ayyanar is a Specialist in the Department of Neurology at the City Center Mirdif branch of  Medcare Medical Centre. He completed his MBBS and MD in Internal Medicine followed by a Doctorate (DM) in Neurology from the Madurai Medical College, India. His quest for knowledge made him pursue courses in epilepsy, sleep medicine, and neurovascular diagnostics from the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, London, UK and the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA. He was awarded a World Federation of Neurology Fellowship. He is a member of the American Academy Of Neurology, the Emirates Neurology Association, the International League against Epilepsy and the Indian Academy Of Neurology. He is an Advisor to the University of Canada, Dubai and the American University, Kuwait.

With over two decades of diverse experience, Dr. Ayyanar has worked in India and the UAE. He worked as a guide under the Indian Council of Medical Research, focusing on genetic factors in epilepsy syndromes. During the nascency of his career, he mentored postgraduate students in clinical medicine and neurology.  He was very successful as an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Neurology Department of Madurai Medical College in Tamilnadu, India. Subsequently, he relocated to the UAE, treating patients with a wide range of neurological conditions following global standards of neurological care. He has worked as a Specialist Neurologist at the American Wellness Centre and the Saudi German Hospital both in Dubai.

Dr. Ayyanar’s special interests revolve around headaches, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, stroke, dementia, and cranial and peripheral nerve disorders. He is proficient in conducting EEG, EMG, nerve conduction studies, and evoked potentials, aiming to provide the most comprehensive care to his patients. He has successfully treated dizziness and vertigo due to neurological causes, managed conditions like neck pain, low back pain due to nerve compressions, Carpal tunnel syndrome and other entrapment neuropathies, diabetic neuropathies, strokes presenting with changes like speech difficulty, unsteady walking, weakness of limbs, memory deficits and memory disorders. He has treated children and adolescents with learning difficulties due to neurological problems like epilepsy, and muscle and nerve disorders like myasthenia gravis, dermatomyositis and twitching of muscles.

He was recognized in the ‘Who’s Who’ by Marquis in 2003 for his invaluable contribution to the field. He believes in the transformative power of technology in clinical practice and this led him to become certified in machine learning, and he’s currently awaiting a patent for his invention of an artificial olfactory system in the USPTO.  Dr. Ayyanar is passionate about technology in medicine and in his spare time enjoys reading, listening to music and travelling. He speaks basic Arabic, English, Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil.
