Dr. Sara Hayek is an experienced and skilled Consultant in Family Medicine, practicing at the Palm Jumeirah branch of Medcare Medical Centre. She completed her MBBS and her Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition from King's College, London. She is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP), UK.
Dr. Hayek garnered tremendous experience while working in the UK. She spent her Foundation Year 1 at the Peterborough City Hospital working in the areas of Psychiatry, Upper Gastrointestinal medicine and Respiratory medicine. During her Foundation Year 2 at Addenbrooke's Hospital, she received exposure to handling Trauma and Orthopaedics, ENT and Family Medicine. Her Foundation Year 3 was spent at The Royal Marsden, in the field of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Urology. She completed the first two phases of her GP Specialty Training at the Milton Keynes University Hospital practising in the areas of ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and then Family Medicine, General Medicine (Care of the Elderly/Respiratory Medicine). In the final year of her GP accreditation at Bassett Road Surgery, she focussed on Family Medicine. She has worked as a Post-CCT-Consultant in Family Medicine at several hospitals and clinics in the UK such as the Fryent Way Surgery, Pimlico Health at The Marven, Squires Lane, The Good Practice, Mayfield Surgery and the Wide Way Surgery. After having worked in the UK for nearly two decades she relocated to the UAE.
As a Family Medicine Consultant, Dr. Hayek provides comprehensive health care for all ages across all diseases. She has successfully managed chronic conditions in adults including hypertension, angina, heart failure, high cholesterol, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, COPD, asthma, hypothyroidism, urinary incontinence and recurrent UTIs in females, chronic sinusitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), GORD/dyspepsia, H. Pylori infections, PR bleeding and Haemorrhoids (piles, fissures). She is also proficient in managing acute conditions in adults and paediatrics such as viral upper respiratory tract infections, croup, lower chest infections, exacerbation of asthma or COPD, acute urinary tract infections, cellulitis, otitis media, otitis externa, conjunctivitis, acute sinusitis, Hayfever, tonsillitis, acute abdominal pains - suspected cholecystitis, suspected appendicitis, suspected kidney stones, acute chest pains, diarrhoea, vomiting, migraines and tension headaches. She treats paediatrics for functional constipation, asthma, eczema, 6-week newborn checks, reflux in babies, cow's milk allergy in babies, oral thrush and cradle cap. Her professional versatility is evident in her expert management of mental health issues which include depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and post-natal depression.
Dr. Hayek also treats common rashes, warts, impetigo, molluscum contagiosum, eczema, acne, psoriasis, hand foot and mouth, chicken pox, pityriasis versicolor, fungal nail infections, athlete's foot, scabies, bed bug bites and musculoskeletal conditions involving back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow. Her expertise also covers men's health including benign prostatic hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction, lower urinary tract infections and increased urinary frequency. In women’s health, she has managed menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, HRT for menopause symptoms, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Family Planning and Contraception, vaginal candidiasis, bacterial Vaginosis, post-natal maternal check, mastitis, and breast lumps.
During her leisure hours, she likes going to the gym and playing the flute. She also enjoys travelling and doing voluntary work. She speaks English and Arabic and has learnt British Sign Language.
